Art Steal

Posted by Deimiler - February 9th, 2025

My fanart of Mita that went viral is spread across the internet with many posts without citing its creator. And what is even more incredible is that on some platforms like TikTok/Steam/Reddit, the thieves' posts have more reach and views than my own! This is frustrating.

I don't think they CAN cite you because there's no Watermark on your Art.

The problem is that watermark makes the art uglier, but it seems like I won't have a choice in doing that.

That's suck and I'm sorry to read that :(
Maybe you asking kindly these people to credit you might make them cite the source?

Like @Tinfoi said, watermarking your work is a great way to protect what you do. But if it really bother you, maybe these platforms (TikTok/steam/reddit) might have a help section to get unwanted content to be removed?

That being said, it is also the internet. People take things whenever they want, they download, reupload, ect... It's the internet, and we can't do much against it, but hopefully we can limit this, by watermarking and using these help sections :)

That's what I did in some posts, there was one who understood and edited the post and cited my name and source of the art. I didn't want my art to have a watermark because I believe it makes it uglier. But I think it's the only way to minimize it and have more recognition.

@Deimiler Who said that?

You say who stole it?

@Deimiler

There's a lot of way to watermark without altering your art, like writing "Deimiler" on the outlines :)
Plus, a lot of people watermark their art so it's pretty common too :)

From now on, that's what I'm going to do. Thank you.

@Deimiler No I mean, who told you that putting a Watermark on your Art makes it uglier? That's just untrue lol

If you leave the watermark on the edge of the artwork where it doesn't change the artwork itself, the thief can simply edit it and cut it out. When I put the name in the middle of the artwork, I think it takes away some of the beauty, that's my opinion. But given what's happening, I have no choice but to insert a watermark inside my artwork where it can't be cut out.

@TinFoi
There was some instances of stuck up people who would hate on watermarks for some reason,but fortunately they're a very small minority

@Deimiler Please do. But I rather not make it obvious, though still visible.

That's what I mean so as not to take away the beauty of the art. Make sure the watermark doesn't obscure any important detail or be in the wrong place in the composition.
